Every Day is Earth Day for Several Handmade in Kansas City Makers

Earth Day this year is on April 22nd.  This year will be Earth Day’s 46th anniversary, and climate change and considerations for our planet are now even more important than ever.   Events are held worldwide to celebrate the cause for environmental protection, not just on Earth Day, but every day of the year, and to remind us that we alone hold the power to protect our environment.  The Earth Day anthem, which was written to explain the importance of Earth Day, says:
Joyful joyful we adore our Earth in all its wonderment
Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise

Now we must resolve to protect her

Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch

We make our home a newborn world
Several Handmade in Kansas City members make items out of recycled fabric and parts.  Just a few members that do include:

Sara from Gypsy Soup makes a completely unique and beautiful line of wrist cuffs, fanny packs and purses from upcycled fabric including neckties.  This Scrunch Clutch Bag is on sale right now!

Rebecca from Remnants by RJ makes robots with big personalities from found  materials. Chances are she has or can make a robot perfect for you.  You can find this limited edition KC Royals Bitty Bot here.

Laura, from Handmade by LoloZ makes beautiful handmade clothing.   Some of her repurposing includes making antique embroidered pillowcases into girls dresses and skirts. Right now, she's making some Royals game day dresses with thrifted t-shirts.

Carla from Nuggets of Goodness repurposes vintage jewelry and other treasures into new jewelry and gift items.  This vintage souvenir wine charm set would be perfect for the traveler in your life.

Tania, from Ivory Isis creates beautiful jewelry from vintage items.  This necklace was made from a perfume button and is nuzzled in rose gold settings.  You can purchase it here.

FabTabulous makes gorgeous jewelry from guitar strings and pop can tabs.  Cindy purchases the pop can tabs from Ronald McDonald House.   This stunning guitar string bracelet can be found here.

Kristi & Carolyn from Hang Ups in KC create unique jewelry from retired musical instruments and antique items.  These earrings were made from the body of a retired flute and can be found here.  A portion of the proceeds from these earrings will be donated to Band of Angels KC.

  1. The beauty of the space and food get 5 juicy stars. The place was built with class! I'm no critic, but this place makes you appreciate design and aesthetics. I went to two events at venues in Chicago. Both times, I had a great experience.
