Handmade
in Kansas City is much more than a collective of artisans. We are a group with heart. When Kristi & Carolyn from
Hang Ups in KC put the word out that Literacy Kansas City was looking
for donations for their upcoming silent auction at the Corporate
Spelling Bee, Made In Kansas City group members happily donated several
of their own handmade items to make up two very fabulous Handmade in
Kansas City gift baskets that would be raffled off for charity.
Hang
Ups in KC formed a partnership with Literacy Kansas City last year and
are thrilled to not only donate a portion of the proceeds from their
Literacy Kansas City Collection but to work on projects and events with
the Literacy Kansas City Team. This program changes lives right here in our
community. Did you know that approximately 225,000 adults in the
Kansas City area function at the lowest literacy level? Literacy Kansas
City's goal is to help raise awareness of our community's significant
literacy needs and provide free one-to-one and small group tutoring
programs. Their volunteers give the gift of self-esteem, new
opportunities, and capabilities that literacy brings to virtually every
aspect of a student's life. How amazing is that?
Handmade in Kansas City is proud to have supported Literacy Kansas City’s 20th Annual Corporate Spelling Bee!

Congratulations to the winners - American Century Investments!
And this is the Literacy KC team, along with an army of volunteers, that makes it all happen. They are all hero’s and life-changers.
Stay
tuned for exciting developments as the Handmade in Kansas City
community of makers grows. This much heart can only lead to good
things!
